by Artist Monica Furzcon
In 2012, the art teacher from Lemont High School, Ryan Hennebry, came into the museum one day a few weeks ago with this painting in hand. He explained that it was one of eight paintings done by his students that were considered prize winning. It reflects our downtown businesses in a dramatic and colorful way. How impressive I thought. Would we allow it to be hung somewhere in the museum?
Encouraging and promoting our history is part of our mission statement and all the Board Members answered in the affirmative. Now where to hang it? The lobby was chosen as a fitting site. It compliments a treasured painting of our historic building donated so many years ago and done by a Lemonter. The contrast of artwork done by two of our own Lemont artists seemed very fitting.
The Lemont High School Senior, Monica Furzcon, met with Mr. Hennebry at the museum lobby to see her painting hanging and it was a perfect photo opportunity as you can see.
We congratulate Monica and all the other art students who participated and wish all of them much success in the future. We also acknowledge Mr. Hennebry for his dedication and obvious teaching skills that inspired and encouraged such talent to thrive in our community.
In closing the Lemont Area Historical Society is very proud to be one of the business places in town to have been chosen to showcase a painting from an art project done at Lemont High School. Please come in and see the art work which is on loan by this talented artist for a short time.
